Basti (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 14 (ANI): BJP MP Jagadambika Pal, Chairman of the Waqf Amendment Bill Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), on Monday condemned the recent violence in Murshidabad, West Bengal.
Pal described the incident as "unfortunate" and alleged that Hindus are being forced to leave their homes due to state-sponsored violence. He claimed that a mob attacked a Hindu house, killing a father and son, and injuring 16 police personnel.
Pal further accused the state government of providing protection to Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, suggesting that they are viewed as a vote bank.
"The incident of Murshidabad is unfortunate. Hindus are forced to leave. The mob entered a Hindu house and killed a father and a son. Sixteen police personnel are injured. And yet, the state government is taking no steps. This is a state-sponsored violence. The state organised it, and the state is providing protection to Bangladeshis and Rohingyas because they think of them as their vote bank...," he told ANI.
Earlier today, West Bengal Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari demanded that elections be held under President's Rule in areas where Hindus are in the minority, citing concerns over voting rights after the Murshidabad violence.
He also called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the violence, labeling it as "anti-national activities."
Speaking to ANI, he said, "I have this in my petition that after such explosions and firing incidents, the NIA should investigate (in Murshidabad) as these are anti-national activities... Wherever Hindus are in the minority, they don't let Hindus vote, and hence, the Elections must be held under president rule for the sake of democracy..."
The BJP accuses the TMC government of inaction and appeasement, while the TMC accuses the BJP of stoking communal tension.
On Saturday, a special bench of the Calcutta High Court ordered the deployment of central forces "immediately" in Murshidabad in the wake of widespread violence in the district during the protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act that resulted in three deaths so far. (ANI)
