Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 28 (ANI): Following the death of two persons and injuries to over 30 others in a stampede-like situation triggered by an electrocution incident at a temple in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki, Cabinet Minister Sanjay Kumar Nishad on Monday expressed deep condolences and said the state government stands with the bereaved families.
"The state government stands with the families of the deceased. We express our deepest condolences. I thank the Chief Minister for ensuring assistance to the families of the deceased. The government will ensure that such incidents do not happen in future," said Nishad.
The incident occurred around 2:30 am at the Awsaneshwar Mahadev temple, where a large number of devotees had gathered for darshan on the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan. The incident was reportedly caused by an electric wire falling onto a tin shed, resulting in several people coming in contact with the live wire.
The injured were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Haidergarh and Trivediganj for treatment.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed grief and announced a high-level probe into the incident. He said that the District Magistrate has been directed to submit a report within 24 hours.
"It is a very tragic incident. Orders have been issued for a comprehensive investigation into the entire incident. A report has been sought from the District Magistrate within 24 hours. Instructions have been given to investigate the causes of the incident and to take necessary steps to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future at our temples and shrines," Pathak told ANI.
He added, "The government stands with the affected families with full sensitivity. We are also providing financial assistance, but beyond that, we will ensure that the affected families never face distress." (ANI)
