New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi on Friday said that it's a momentous occasion when heads of state and foreign delegates are visiting the country to attend the G20 World Leaders Summit.
"It is time to showcase our cultural diversity and put Indian cities on the world map," MoS Lekhi told ANI.
As preparations continue for the G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 to 10 in New Delhi, Minister of State for External Affairs, Meenakshi Lekhi, emphasized the significance of this event, welcoming heads of state and other dignitaries to India.
She highlighted India's rich cultural heritage and its efforts to showcase diverse products from different regions through the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative.
Meenakshi Lekhi said there are several gifts like hand-woven stoles, paintings scrolls and more traditional items would be presented as gifts to spouses of the G20 leaders.
When asked about the details of their visit, she said the spouses of world leaders would visit the Indian Agriculture Research Institute ( PUSA) on the morning of September 9 where they will meet with some women farmers and see some land.
"The credit goes to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he did not want it to be just a simple kind of experience for them, but a very substantial experience".
The minister added that the World knows about the Indian Space Research Organisation after its historic moon landing mission but people were oblivion to the potential of our agriculture.
"From a food deficit country, India has grown into a food surplus country".
"In terms of dairy farming, we will showcase that we are number one. So people need to know that aspect. We will show them our scientific labs as well".
The minister said the spouses of the foreign delegates will visit the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in the second half of the day on September 9.
"A 5000-year-old Chariot in the world and a French book collection about our ancient musical instruments will also be showcased".
Besides, traditional earrings, jewellery, quilts and Pashmina shawls will also be on display, MoS Lekhi said.
Wrap Studio CEO Siddharth Saigal said, "We are proudly representing the art of Kashmir in different formats. We are presenting some beautiful hand paintings from Odisha...and some fashionable products like indigo on Pashmina and reformatting the fabric of Pashmina into the usage of garments like jackets and sarees to give the delegates a variety of options..."
Shayam Soni, a businessman of Gujrat told ANI they have made special vintage collections like Sarees and dupattas. (ANI)
