New Delhi [India], Aug 3 (ANI): With Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla indicating his displeasure over disruptions in the House and not chairing the proceedings, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday urged the Chair to request him to resume presiding over the House.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury made the request soon after the Lok Sabha met for the day.
Chowdhury said that he can say with confidence that every member of the House holds the Speaker in high esteem and admires him.
"Sare member Speaker saab ke mureed hain...I can say with confidence.  Please call him, He is our custodian,” Chowdhury said.
Rajendra Agrawal, who is in the Chair, said that he will convey Chowdhury's sentiments to the Speaker.
Opposition parties have been protesting in the Lok Sabha, raising slogans and displaying placards, over their demands relating to the debate on the Manipur situation.
They have also been pressing that the House takes up the motion of no-confidence against the government.
The House has witnessed repeated adjournments since the start of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20.
In view of uproarious scenes despite his regular appeals, the Speaker decided to refrain from chairing the proceedings of Lok Sabha till the members behave in accordance with the dignity of the House, sources said on Wednesday
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was not in the chair as the Parliament re-assembled for the day on Wednesday.
According to sources, Om Birla has expressed deep displeasure with both the ruling party and the opposition over the functioning of the House.
The House faced another adjournment during Question Hour on Thursday over demands of opposition parties related to Manipur violence. (ANI)
