Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) | April 24 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday announced that the party will participate in the upcoming all-party meeting. The party's Principal Secretary General, Ram Gopal Yadav, will represent the SP at the meeting and articulate its stance.
Yadav also strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that terrorism has no religion and that no political party should seek mileage from such a tragic incident.
Addressing the media in Lucknow, Yadav said, "...Samajwadi Party has decided that in the all-party meeting, the Principal Secretary General of the party, Ram Gopal Yadav, will be present in the meeting and will be keeping the views of the Samajwadi Party in the meeting."
"We condemn the incident. The government should take strict action. Terrorism has no religion...Their main objective is to instil fear, affect the trade... No political party should take political benefit from this incident...," he added.
Earlier in the day, Akhilesh Yadav also expressed concern over the recent surge in airfares from Srinagar following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
Taking to the social media platform X on Thursday, Samajwadi Party chief called the rise in airfares "highly objectionable" and "highly reprehensible". He condemned the arbitrary charging of increased fares to tourists during such a tragic incident, saying that it cannot be justified under any circumstances.
"The news of exorbitant increases in airfares from Srinagar is inhuman and highly condemnable. Charging arbitrary fares from tourists at the time of such a tragedy cannot be justified in any way. The government should clarify whether it is responsible for 'exorbitant fare collection' or not," Yadav said.
He further questioned the government's role in this issue, asking for clarification on whether the government was responsible for the exorbitant fare increases.
"The tax related to the fare goes to the government, which means the public believes that all this is happening with the connivance of the government," he added.
The SP Chief's remarks come amid growing criticism over reports that airlines have significantly increased ticket prices for departures from Srinagar following the attack. (ANI)
