Neeraj Shekhar

New Delhi [India], July 15 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Neeraj Shekhar has resigned as a member of the Rajya Sabha and his resignation has been accepted, officials said here on Monday.
They said that Neeraj Shekhar, son of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar, met Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and told him that he was resigning voluntarily.
As per the sources, when Shekhar met Rajya Sabha Chairman Naidu, he asked him whether his resignation was voluntarily and if he would like to rethink.
Responding to this, Shekhar stated that he was resigning voluntarily and no rethinking in the matter. Accordingly, under the provision of Rule 213, Rajya Sabha Chairman accepted his resignation.
Rule 213 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Rajya Sabha states that if a Member who intends to resign his seat in the Council shall intimate in writing under his hand addressed to the Chairman, his intention to resign his seat in the Council.
If a Member hands over the letter of resignation to the Chairman personally and informs him that the resignation is voluntary and genuine and the Chairman has no information or knowledge to the contrary, the Chairman may accept the resignation immediately.
A Member may withdraw his letter of resignation at any time before it is accepted by the Chairman.
Shekhar had over a year left of his term in the Rajya Sabha and was to retire in November next year.
There is speculation that he might join the BJP. (ANI)
