New Delhi [India], August 29 (ANI): Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday arrived in the national capital from Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier on August 26, Sonia Gandhi arrived in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar where she also took a boat ride in Nigeen Lake.
Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Tariq Hamid called Sonia and Rahul’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir “private”.
"Rahul or Sonia's visits are private. But there is an indication in it regarding the CWC composition or Rahul's yatra, his 31 January speech, all of this is an indication of how connected he is with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and how seriously he takes Jammu and Kashmir in his politics. The composition of the CWC is a part of it," Tariq Hamid said.
"His visit is an indication that he is trying to strengthen his relationship with Jammu and Kashmir... I believe that the BJP is getting disintegrated day by day and Congress is getting strengthened," he added.
Earlier Rahul Gandhi also visited Ladakh and during his visit, he celebrated his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's birthday on August 20 at Pangong Lake.
This was Rahul’s first visit to Ladakh since Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories, Ladakh and J-K, following the removal of Article 370 and 35 (A) on August 5, 2019.
He also visited Kargil Memorial during his stay interacted with the youth and also participated in the meeting of the 30-member Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil elections on August 25.
Although the Congress MP visited Srinagar and Jammu twice earlier this year, he, however, did not travel to Ladakh.
In January, the Congress leader visited Jammu and Srinagar during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Again on a personal visit in February, he visited the Gulmarg ski resort.
Earlier this month, during his visit to Ladakh, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Centre, saying that its claim that not an inch of Indian land was taken by China's People Liberation Army (PLA) troops "is not true".
The Congress MP claimed the locals, too, contend that Indian territory was intruded upon and taken by the Chinese troops, adding that it was a matter of concern."
The locals here are concerned about China taking our land. They have said that the Chinese troops took away their grazing land. However, the PM says not an inch of land was taken away. This is not true, you can ask anyone here," Rahul had said. (ANI)
