Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 9 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla who was on a one-day visit to Madhya Pradesh planted a sapling at Bijasan forest camp plantation site, Indore, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and highlighted India's commitment to reduce carbon footprints and the measures being taken by the government in this regard.
Speaking on this occasion, Om Birla said that in this regard, tree plantation has been proven to be the most effective way to prevent global warming, deforestation and environmental damage.

"Plantation will help us to deal with the problem of climate change and also maintain ecological balance," he added.
Birla also observed that planting saplings should not be an end in itself but we need to protect them so that they grow into big trees.
"Monitoring activities like geo-tagging by the government will prove very helpful in protecting these activities," Birla suggested.
He urged the people to make plantation and protection of trees a mass movement.

Mentioning the cultural and spiritual aspects of the plantation, Birla spoke about the importance of environmental protection as one of the core aspects of Indian culture.
