Amritsar (Punjab), [India], Mar 15 (ANI):  Many people in Amritsar city claimed to have heard "loud blasts" in the wee hours of Thursday after which social media was abuzz with speculations.
A few people took to social media to write about two very loud sounds, which some said sounded similar to bomb blasts. However, police said "everything was okay" in the city and not to believe in "rumours" on social media.
Jagjit Singh Walia, ADCP Amritsar, told ANI: "I appeal to the people to not believe in rumours on social media. Everything is okay. As per our information nothing has happened. "
On Twitter, people claimed "heightened air activity" in the city. Soon the hashtag Amritsar surfaced with the conversation perking up about "sonic booms", "low flying jets"  or just "loud sounds across the sky".
Most people reported the loud sounds around 1 am on Friday.
ADCP Amritsar said it was merely chatter on social media and added: "We will investigate the matter. If there is something, we will let you know."
Amritsar is situated near the border of India with Pakistan with the Wagah Border only 28 kilometres away from it.
Recently, tensions have been high between India and Pakistan ever since India undertook an anti-terror strike on a JeM terror camp in Pakistan's Balakot. (ANI)
