New Delhi [India], Feb 9 (ANI): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday opened the much awaited 1.2 km-long footover bridge linking Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus station of Pink Line with Dhaula Kuan station of Airport Express Line.
The skywalk, which is the longest in the Delhi Metro network, became operational after DMRC Managing Director Dr Mangu Singh inspected the footover bridge along with senior officials.
"The Foot Over Bridge (FOB) connecting Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro station of Pink Line and Dhaula Kuan Metro station of the Airport Express Line is operational now. The FOB was opened after inspection by DMRC MD, Dr. Mangu Singh in the presence of senior DMRC officials" the DRMC wrote on Twitter.
Due to the long distance between the two stations, the new skywalk has travellators installed in order to provide hassle-free commuting for people during interchange.
"Due to complex geographical challenges, a station could not have been constructed closer to Dhaula Kuan. Hence by providing a link between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Dhaula Kuan stations, a smooth transition has been provided between Pink and the Airport Express Lines," read another tweet.
With the opening of the footover bridge, commuters will now be able to travel towards Terminals 1 and 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station seamlessly.
The Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus stretch of the Pink Line was opened in March last year. However, the footover bridge was incomplete at that time and work was stopped several times due to technical and geographical difficulties and other unforeseen circumstances, thereby delaying its completion.
The skywalk has been covered to prevent commuters from being exposed to vagaries of weather and is equipped with CCTV cameras, public address system, display screens, and proper lighting.
Keeping in mind the convenience of travellers heading out of the city, the travellators have been installed to help those carrying luggage, although the long trek could be challenging for the commuters. (ANI)
