Karur (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 1 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA and party's Karur District Secretary V. Senthil Balaji on Wednesday said that he has never seen something as tragic as the Karur stampede in his twenty-nine years of public service. He also urged everyone to work together to ensure that nothing like Karur happens in the future.
While addressing the media, DMK MLA and the party's District Secretary V. Senthil Balaji said, "I have been in public service for 29 years, and never before has such a tragic incident occurred in Karur. In the future, everyone must work together to ensure that such incidents do not take place anywhere in Tamil Nadu."
He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and said, "We express our deepest condolences over the tragic incident that occurred in Karur on the 27th. We pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured."
DMK MLA Balaji also thanked the CM M.K. Stalin and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin and said, "We also extend our thanks to the Hon'ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for personally visiting the site of the incident and for ensuring that all necessary assistance is provided to the patients undergoing treatment in the hospital."
He further said that he do not view the incident politically and added, "Of the 41 victims, 39 were from Karur. This situation should not be politicised. Whatever party's event it may be in the future, we must join together and take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents."
Earlier, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Tuesday asserted that leaders of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) must take responsibility and accept that the unfortunate Karur stampede incident "is their own fault".
"First of all, the frontline leaders of TVK have to realise that it is their own fault. It happened due to a lack of leadership. They are trying to accuse and make allegations against the DMK government," Thirumavalavan told ANI.
He stated that the main reason for the stampede to occur was the delay in the arrival of the actor and TVK chief Vijay, as well as the large number of people in the crowd.
"Vijay delayed as much as he wanted. The crowd of thousands waited for a long time for Vijay, who came in the evening. This is the main cause of this tragedy. TVK leaders have to learn some lessons from this kind of tragedy. It will help them in the future. It will not be helpful for them if they try to make allegations against the CM and the government of Tamil Nadu," Thirumavalavan said. (ANI)
