New Delhi [India], Nov 15 (ANI): A day after SPIC-MACAY event 'Dance and Music in the Park' was postponed by its organisers, Delhi Government approached one of the artists -- Carnatic singer T.M. Krishnan -- to perform in the Capital city.
According to sources, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia contacted Krishnan in this regard and the singer has also accepted the invitation.
Speaking to ANI, Krishnan said: "The Delhi government has approached me for a concert they are planning to host on November 17. I have said yes in principle. But we don't know the details because it is all in the last minute. If it happens, I will go to Delhi on November 17. Also, I would like to say that I have received a lot of support from the people of Delhi.”
Responding to the criticism he is facing from certain groups on the social media for being highly vocal on political issues, Krishnan told ANI: “There is certain section of people in the society who are trying to scare people. These are the people who not know what democracy means and what it means to be an Indian. Everybody has an opinion. But nobody should be attacked because of that. India is a country of multiple culture and religions. However, some people are trying to narrow it down,” Krishnan told ANI.
"Words like urban naxal, presstitute, anti-Indian are created by people who do not know what democracy is. They want to scare you and make other people angry at you. They are using these reasons today to stop a festival," he added.
The two-day SPIC-MACAY concert was scheduled to be held on November 17 and 18 at New Delhi’s Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri area where Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan (Sitar), T.M.Krishna (Carnatic Vocal), Dr. Sonal Mansingh (Odissi) and Priyadarsini Govind (Bharatnatyam) were supposed to perform. However, this was suddenly postponed on Tuesday with the organizers citing `urgent engagements.’ The new dates will be announced shortly, they conveyed.
This abrupt postponement lead to speculations that the event was cancelled after the organisers were trolled by a certain section on the social media for inviting T.M. Krishna as one of the artists. Krishna, a Magsaysay award winner, had on November 10 participated in another SPIC MACAY event in Jaipur. (ANI)
