Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramchander Rao on Tuesday criticised Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the Election Commission in Boston, US and suggested that he should resign from his LoP post because he lacks faith in his own election.
Rao stated that this behaviour is disrespectful and baseless, and it is an insult to India and its democratic system.
Speaking to ANI, BJP leader Ramchander Rao said, "Rahul Gandhi seems to have developed an adverse feeling towards his own country. And that's why whenever someone criticises India's institutions from abroad, he supports it. He recently called the Election Commission a fraud while speaking on foreign soil. This insults India and its democratic system. Earlier, he made similar claims in Parliament about microphones, alleging that the opposition's microphones are being muted and statements are being manipulated, allegations that are baseless and disrespectful to our institutions."
"If he doesn't trust the elections, then why did he contest and win? Why did his sister win? The same Election Commission conducted those elections. It seems the Congress party can't accept the BJP's third consecutive win, and that's why Gandhi is making such statements. His anti-Modi stance has turned into an anti-India attitude. He should apologise to the nation and resign from his position as Leader of the Opposition. Someone who doesn't believe in India's democratic process shouldn't represent the country, especially abroad," Rao further said.
He stated that Rahul Gandhi's anti-Modi stance has evolved into an anti-India attitude, and he is unable to accept the BJP's third consecutive win.
Earlier, Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the Indian Diaspora in Boston, alleged that the Election Commission (EC) in India was "compromised," further stating that there was something very wrong with the system.
Citing the example of the Maharashtra elections, the Senior Congress leader stated that there was an addition of 65 lakh voters to the voter list in two hours, which was impossible.
"More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact... the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible..." he claimed, addressing the meeting."It's very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised, there is something very wrong with the system..." he further said.
