Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 13 (ANI): After a Bengaluru Court issued a non-bailable warrant against former Karnataka Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader BS Yediyurappa, human rights activist and advocate Vinay said that it is "shocking" that he was not arrested till now.
A Bengaluru court, earlier in the day, issued a non-bailable warrant against Yediyurappa in connection with a sexual assault case against a minor under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), which deals with sexual offences against minors.
"A complaint was lodged against him (BS Yediyurappa) at a Police station in Bengaluru. It was shocking that he wasn't arrested until now...The shocking thing was that the Karnataka Home Minister practically gave a clean chit to Yediyurappa by saying that 'the mental health of the complaint is under doubt and she has given several such complaints", Vinay said while speaking to ANI.
"The complainant died a few weeks ago though she is said to have had an illness for some time now. But a few days before she died, she had decided to move court against Yediyurappa. The way death happened and her body was moved, it was suspicious...we hope Karnataka government fights the case and ensure that minor victim avails justice", he added.
Earlier in March, the mother of the victim filed a complaint against the former Chief Minister at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru, alleging that the latter had sexually assaulted her daughter. In this regard, the brother of the victim filed a petition in the court against Yediyurappa.
Meanwhile, the fast-track court hearing the petition issued a non-bailable warrant against the former CM of Karnataka, directing immediate arrest of the accused.
BS Yediyurappa has applied for anticipatory bail at a special court, (People Representative Court) seeking prevention from arrest in the POCSO act filed against him, according to a statement from his office.
Yediyurappa is presently in the national capital. (ANI)
