Shiv Sena to contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections alone

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Jan. 23 (ANI): The 'blow hot-blow cold' relationship between saffron allies Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena was further strained on Tuesday after the latter announced that it would contest the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly and Lok Sabha elections alone.

"We will fight 2019 assembly and Lok Sabha elections alone," said party leader Sanjay Raut, who has moved a resolution in this regard.

The decision was taken in the party's national executive meet.

The two parties share a sour relationship, ever since the BJP has come to power in Maharashtra, the citadel of Shiv Sena.

Earlier, too, the rift between the allies came to light after the Shiv Sena announced that it would soon decide on whether to continue in the two-party coalition government in the state.

The Shiv Sena often attacks the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre over a slew of issues in its editorial mouthpiece Saamna. (ANI)
