Shimla receives fresh spell of snowfall

The queen of hills, Shimla, received a fresh spell of snowfall on Thursday morning.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], February 1 (ANI): The queen of hills, Shimla, received a fresh spell of snowfall on Thursday morning.

Kufri, a beautiful hill station in Shimla, transformed into a winter wonderland after receiving the snowfall. The town experienced snow only for a few minutes, but it was impactful.
The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh also witnessed snowfall on Thursday, bringing cheer to the tourists and locals.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Shimla said that light to moderate snowfall is likely to continue in Shimla city and adjoining areas. The visibility is likely to remain poor for the next 2 to 3 hours.
Most of the places in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur and Shimla districts have received fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours.
As per the State Disaster Management Authority, "241 roads including 6 National Highways are closed in these areas. 677 Electricity supply schemes are distributed due to snowfall in the region."
Earlier on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for snowfall and rainfall in several parts of the hill state, Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours.
Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at Meteorological Centre in Himachal's Shimla said the weather will be normal on February 2 while snowfall is expected after February 3 due to the influence of an approaching western disturbance.
The hill state, of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday received fresh snowfall in higher mountains.
Following the fresh snowfall, the farmers are hopeful as the prolonged dry spell has ended in the hill state.
Kharapathar, Tikkar, Mandhol, Narkanda and higher reaches in the Dodra Kawar region of Shimla district also received fresh snowfall yesterday. (ANI)
