Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 9 (ANI): Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities have launched a drive and are making efforts to restore damages caused to public properties and to address power supply disruptions following heavy rainfall in the city on Monday night.
A special team has been formed by civic body authorities to handle disaster situations and address any complaints related to rain damages.
"This is part of a smart city project near Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (DDU) close to the local bus stand, where we have been working on a parking and shops project for the past three to four months. Due to the heavy rainfall, a wall collapsed, narrowing the road. However, the recent rains have not caused major damage. We have cleared all drains and rivulets and are ready with a special team, alert 24/7, to respond to any rain-related threats," Shimla Municipal Corporation commissioner Bhupinder Atri said.
Locals said that the continuous rain over the past few days also damaged the road of the area following the collapse of a wall. However, no major losses were incurred in the incident.
"The wall collapsed yesterday around 07.00 pm due to the rain damaging the road. The electricity supply is being restored, and they are repairing the poles. Fortunately, there was no major loss as no one was present," he said.
As many as 70 roads have been closed and 51 water supply schemes are hampered due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, 84 electricity supply schemes have also been disrupted due to the current weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier predicted that there would be a reduction in the rainfall from July 8 onwards. (ANI)
