Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 19 (ANI): In the aftermath of the massive landslide which struck the Summer Hill area of Shimla and the subsequent mishap in which a temple was washed away, locals and visitors worry that the calamity was posing threat to the iconic building of Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS).
The landside and flash food hit the temple after the backyard wall of the iconic building collapsed on August 14.
SDM Shimla (Urban) Bhanu Gupta said that the landslide destroyed the temple and rescue operation was going on. The landslide happened at the backside of the campus, he added.
Bhanu Gupta said, "The landslide happened on the back side of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study building. We have requested the forest department to come and visit and give us a report so that we can pass an order. The landslide has occurred away from the building but once the technical team visits they will be able to comment better."
Bhanu Gupta further said that the Indian Institute of Advanced Study officials had raised two points.
He further said, "Some cracks have formed in the surface and as a result the whole area has subsided and the trees have tilted. We have also invited the technical team of the Municipal Corporation to visit the spot so that a technical assessment can be conducted." (ANI)
