New Delhi [India], July 27 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawala, said on Saturday that the INDIA bloc claims to be committed to safeguarding the Constitution. However, Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's letter to President Droupadi Murmu reveals that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is anti-constitutional.
Sharing a post on his X account, Poonawala said, "INDIA says it is for saving Sanvidhan (Constitution). But Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury writes to President Droupadi Murmu and exposes TMC as anti-Sanvidhan (anti-constitutional)."
Poonawala shared a letter written by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, to President Murmu, stating that there is an emergency and anarchy in West Bengal because of the TMC. The post read, "There's an undeclared emergency in Bengal and anarchy in Bengal due to TMC; no fundamental rights for citizens; terror on opposition workers; innocents being taken into custody; and Murshidabad riots were engineered for votes."
Poonawala further questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying, "Will Rahul speak up for Sanvidhan in Bengal, or will he dump his own Adhir Ranjan? One more tukde tukde in INDIA alliance. They have no common mission and vision, only confusion and compulsion."
The BJP leader also stated that the INDIA alliance is now over in places like Delhi and Punjab. "INDIA alliance now over in Delhi, Punjab, Kerala, Haryana, Bengal... where next?" Poonawala said.
Notably, in the letter to President Murmu, Chowdhury said, "I wish to seek your kind intervention in restoring civility and law and order in public life in the state of West Bengal. For me, at a personal level, it is not only disturbing but also deeply anguishing to see the anarchic condition in the state of West Bengal owing to the ruthless approach of the ruling party towards the workers, sympathizers, and supporters of the parties opposed to the ruling dispensation in the state."
The letter further stated, "In the initial phase of 2024, when elections to the 18th Lok Sabha were due, the strong-handed and terror-filled attacks on workers, sympathizers, and supporters of parties opposed to the ruling TMC were the order of the day in the state. As a result, many innocent persons have lost their lives, and have been jailed or taken into custody."
Chowdhury, in his letter, also mentioned the Sandeshkali incident, saying, "It would be needless for me to highlight before you the instances of mass violence and exploitation, such as the 'Sandeshkali incident' and the 'engineered' communal riots that took place in Murshidabad district before the Lok Sabha elections to polarize the voters."
The letter added, "While the opposition party members and workers of all hues suffered immensely before the Lok Sabha polls due to the 'terror' unleashed by the ruling party in the state, what is of immediate and very deep concern, and requires immediate attention, is the continued post-poll violence and intimidation of the opposition workers by the ruling party in the state."
Requesting the President for her intervention in West Bengal, Chowdhury in the letter said, "Considering the facts of the situation prevalent in the state of West Bengal, which does not at all augur well for our democratic society, I, as a person who has always been actively involved in public life, sincerely plead with you, as the Head of the Nation, to ensure justice for the people of West Bengal. Earnestly looking ahead for your kind intervention in restoring order in the state of West Bengal." (ANI)
