Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who has been on a personal visit to Himachal Pradesh's Shimla since June 2, underwent a routine medical check-up at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) on Saturday evening.
According to the hospital administration, Sonia Gandhi arrived at IGMC around 5:00 pm. She was accompanied by a limited entourage, and the visit was kept discreet. The check-up was part of her regular health care routine.
Dr. Aman Chauhan, Deputy Medical Superintendent at IGMC, confirmed the visit, and said, "She had come for a routine check-up and left after it was completed. Her blood pressure was slightly on the higher side, but there is nothing serious."
"No additional tests were conducted; only routine investigations were carried out. She was not given any special medical advice because everything was perfectly fine," Dr. Chauhan said.
Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Colonel (Retd.) Dhani Ram Shandil spoke to the media regarding her health and assured that there was no cause for concern.
"Sonia Gandhi is in very good health. It is common for anyone to undergo routine check-ups as part of maintaining good health. That is exactly what happened today. There is nothing to worry about," he said.
A press note issued by Dr. Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC and Hospital, also confirmed it.
"Sonia Gandhi visited Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, today for a routine medical check-up. As part of preventive and diagnostic care, a few medical tests were conducted under the supervision of a team of specialised doctors at IGMC. All necessary protocols were followed, and the visit was smoothly coordinated by the medical team. After routine investigations, she left the hospital."
Sonia Gandhi is currently staying at Chharabra, a picturesque hilltop on the outskirts of Shimla, at the residence of her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Officials have said she will be leaving Shimla on Sunday morning.
Her visit to IGMC was coordinated with minimum security arrangements to avoid disrupting the hospital's functioning, and the hospital staff ensured that the visit remained smooth and efficient.
This marks another instance of Sonia Gandhi choosing Shimla as a place for both rest and wellness, a destination that the Gandhi family has often frequented for private retreats. (ANI)
