New Delhi [India], September 10 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party leader Praveen Khandelwal slammed the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee and said that she has failed and was not able to take any required steps early on in the rape and murder case of the postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and the protests that followed it.
The BJP MP on Tuesday further criticised Mamata Banerjee's recent meeting with the protesting doctors, asking why she had not called up a meeting with them earlier.
"Where was Mamata Banerjee when the doctors were protesting? She could have called them up and done the meeting earlier. She has failed in this whole matter and she was not able to take any steps on this matter," Khandelwal said.
He also acknowledged former TMC MP Jawhar Sircar resigning from the TMC as well as from the Rajya Sabha following the incident and said that if Mamata needs to maintain trust, she needs to answer the questions raised by Sircar.
"Jawhar Sircar has shown courage and he resigned from TMC as well as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. And the questions that Sircar had raised for Mamata Banerjee, she needs to answer those to maintain the trust but any national leader who doesn't care about trust and just cares about their political gain, then it's no use to expect any answers from them," he added.
Earlier, Khandelwal also slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his remarks on "Sikhs" and said that the people who are involved in corruption, scams and misusing the resources of the country get scared.
"Who gets scared? Only those who are involved in corruption, scams and misusing the resources of the country should get scared; they should get scared. But there is not even one person in the country who can say that he is scared of PM Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi is saying this because PM Modi's popularity is rising among the people. Rahul Gandhi can't stand this. That is why he is building the narrative of an atmosphere of fear. This is wrong and misleading. A LoP should not make such irresponsible statements on a foreign land," Khandelwal said.
Earlier on Monday in Virginia, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said that the fight is about whether a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear a turban in India and would be able to visit a Gurdwara.
"First of all, you have to understand what the fight is about. The fight is not about politics. It is superficial. What is your name? The fight is about whether... he, as a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear a kada in India. Or a Sikh is going to be able to go to Gurdwara. That's what the fight is about and not just for him, for all religions," Gandhi said. (ANI)
