Shantaram Naik calls Parrikar's censorship against own MLAs 'surprising'

Panaji (Goa) [India], September 20 (ANI): President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Shantaram Naik has expressed his "surprise" over Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's censorship order against his own MLAs restraining them from criticising the policemen in Goa on the drugs issue.

Naik said that he recently came to know that the Chief Minister has signed a note to that on his file.

Naik said that he is also of the opinion that Goa policemen should be encouraged to raid the dens of drug peddlers as they are a menace to the society.

"But the Chief Minister writing a note on his file asking his MLAs restraining from exercising their democratic rights of free speech is yet another example of fascism that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Goa seeks to implement through back door," said Naik.

Naik noted that he has high regards for Goa Police force but Chief Minister Parrikar's order will be embarrassing to the police force that will not prefer an arbitrary protection.

Naik said, "During congress rule Chief Minister Parrikar had criticised Goa police force irresponsibly but, Mr Parrikar had no concern for the morale of Goa Police force the, with respect to whom, Mr Parrikar is now shedding crocodile tears."(ANI)
