Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], September 3 (ANI): Amid the heavy rainfall in Gujarat, several parts of Gandhinagar witnessed severe waterlogging, disrupting traffic in the region on Tuesday.
Visuals from Sector-13 Gandhinagar showed the Mahatma Mandir under-bridge experiencing heavy waterlogging and traffic jams, with many vehicles trying to cross the road despite the water logging in the area, while any others turned back.
Earlier on August 30, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel travelled to Gandhinagar State Emergency Operation Center after travelling from Vadodara, following the forecast of heavy rains and potential storms. The Chief Minister reviewed the system's preparedness for the natural calamity via a video conference with the District Collector.
The Chief Minister also issued immediate instructions to evacuate areas as necessary to safeguard residents from the impending calamity.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi also convened a meeting on Monday to discuss the flood relief efforts in Vadodara.
Speaking to ANI, Sanghavi assured that the state government would ensure that the affected people receive the necessary assistance from the insurance companies. He added that the government will ensure that relief material is being provided to the flood-affected people.
"A meeting was convened to discuss the flood situation...Details were taken on the restoration process. The first round of the restoration process has been completed...In the second round of restoration, it will be ensured that the people affected by floods get the required assistance from the insurance companies...It is being ensured that the relief material is being provided to the flood-affected people," Sanghavi told ANI.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) also had commenced relief operations for the flood-hit cities in Gujarat. Humanitarian air and disaster relief were deployed, with transport aircraft delivering relief materials to the nearest airfields and helicopters--Chetaks and Cheetahs--positioned for operations.
On September 1, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel appreciated the help of the Indian Army in rescue operations amid a flood-like situation in the state saying, "help of Indian Army has added great vigour to the state government's rescue operations." (ANI)
