Mangaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 2 (ANI): Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra on Friday strongly condemned the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru, blaming the Congress-led state government for repeated attacks on Hindu activists.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Vijayendra said, "The BJP strongly condemns the brutal murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty. The local police and the Intelligence Department already knew that his life was under threat, so why didn't they act? This shows a serious failure in the system."
He accused the Congress government of ignoring the safety of Hindu activists. "This isn't an isolated case. Ever since the Congress government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah came to power, there have been a series of murders targeting Hindu activists. It looks like the government has a soft corner for anti-national and anti-social elements. They haven't taken any serious action against groups like the PFI. Their silence has encouraged such attacks," he said.
"The Chief Minister's recent comments on Kashmir have only encouraged anti-national forces in Karnataka. His attitude is dangerous and sends the wrong message," he added.
Vijayendra also criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's recent statements on the Pahagam terror attack.
He said, "His statement saying this is not a failure of the Home Department is unacceptable. People across Karnataka are angry. This isn't the first time something like this has happened. These murders have been going on for months. The Home Minister has not taken these incidents seriously. I believe he is unfit to hold the position and should resign immediately, taking moral responsibility."
Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that four separate teams have been formed to track down the suspects in the Suhas Shetty murder case.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said, "Yesterday evening, in Mangaluru city, a murder happened. We have already taken note of it. We have established four different teams to apprehend the perpetrators. We are going to bring them to the books...in Dakshin Kannada, we try to bring in lots of peace and harmony and incidents like this should not deter those peace and harmony...we have taken this very seriously..."
The Minister assured that the government is taking the incident seriously and remains committed to preserving peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada.
According to the Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Suhas Shetty, a rowdy sheeter and the main accused in the Fazil murder case, was killed by a group of unidentified men around 8:30 pm on Thursday.
In response to the tense situation in the city, the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 2023. The orders came into effect at 6:00 AM on Friday and will remain in force until 6:00 AM on May 6, 2025. (ANI)
