Sasaram (Bihar) [India], August 17 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Sunday criticised Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar's press conference, stating that it appeared as though a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was speaking.
Khera further questioned the CEC's response to the alleged 1 lakh voters exposed in Mahadevpura, stating that the party had hoped that questions regarding the situation would be answered.
"It seemed like a BJP was speaking today...Did he give any response about the 1 lakh voters we exposed in Mahadevapura... We had hoped that today he would answer our questions... They say privacy is hampered in 45 days, then why isn't it hampered in those 45 days?... Khera told ANI.
Earlier in the day, responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations regarding multiple voter registrations at a single address in Mahadevpura, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) had said, "We saw a few days ago that photos of many voters were presented to the media without their permission. Allegations were made against them, and they were used. Should the Election Commission share the CCTV videos of any voter, including their mothers, daughters-in-law or daughters? Only those whose names are in the voter list cast their votes to elect their candidate..."
Rahul Gandhi had earlier alleged that the Election Commission was "destroying evidence" by allowing the deletion of CCTV footage from polling booths after a period of 45 days, unless the election result is legally challenged.
He further alleged "collusion" between the poll body and the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which led to Prime Minister Narendra Modi securing a third term.
Congress secured 99 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections, while the BJP won 240 seats.
The Congress leader further claimed that multiple voters have more than one voter ID card. Gandhi had presented examples of voters like Shakun Rani, who he claimed cast her ballot twice based on data shown by a polling officer. (ANI)
