SC slams Centre for failing to make public places disabled friendly

New Delhi, [India] July 25 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday slammed the Centre for not complying with its earlier order directing the latter to make public places easily accessible to differently-abled people.

New Delhi, [India] July 25 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday slammed the Centre for not complying with its earlier order directing the latter to make public places easily accessible to differently-abled people.
The top court also expressed annoyance over the states not complying with its order and warned that respective chief secretaries will be called to explain the delay.
The apex court further observed that it is the duty and the responsibility of the Centre to implement the Disability Act which will ensure the differently-abled people get access to public places easily.
The top court on December 15, 2017, had passed 11 directions which included making public institutions, transport and educational institutions disabled-friendly.
The top court passed a number of directions which included all government buildings providing any kind of services to the public to be made accessible to differently-abled persons by June 2019.
The directive is as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. (ANI)
