SC refuses to halt release of film 'Ram Ki Janmabhoomi'

New Delhi [India], Mar 28 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to halt the release of Director Sanoj Mishra's film 'Ram Ki Janmabhoomi' which is slated to be released on Friday.
The litigant's plea claimed that the release of the movie will prejudice the ongoing mediation process in Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case.
While hearing the plea, a bench comprising Justices S A Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer, said: "What’s the relation between movie and mediation. The parties want to settle it. We are not so pessimistic. No film can come in the way of mediation."
The court has listed the plea for hearing after two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court heard a similar case, where a person claiming to be a descendant of the Mughal rulers sought a stay on the release of the film. 
The petitioner Yakub Tucey alleged that the movie is “derogatory” towards his ancestors and “defames” his family.
Tucey in his petition claimed that the movie projects “false information” about Shias and Sunni relationship in the period of Mughal rule.
Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) had cleared the film for release with an ‘A’ (restricted to adults) certificate.
On March 8, the Supreme Court referred the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for court-appointed and monitored medication.
Following the order, the top court appointed a mediation committee for resolution of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute which includes Justice Kalifulla, the other members of the committee are Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior Madras High Court advocate Sriram Panchu. (ANI)
