Supreme Court

New Delhi [India], Oct. 29 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to open a social media account where citizens can lodge their complaints regarding pollution in the national capital.
The apex court also asked the Delhi Transport Department to add on its website a list of all vehicles running on petrol that are over 15 years old and those running on diesel that are more than 10 years old so that they can be impounded.
Furthermore, the court has directed the Delhi’s transport department and the CPCB to make advertisements relating to pollution on the website.
The air quality in the national capital region has witnessed a considerable dip in the past few weeks.
On Monday evening, air quality index (AQI) at Delhi’s Srinivaspuri and Mundka areas was recorded at 'hazardous' level.
The deterioration of air quality comes after hundreds of effigies were burned in the capital on Dussehra, aided by firecrackers, even after repeated appeals by authorities to conduct eco-friendly celebrations.
It is believed that the pollution level has exacerbated as farmers in the neighbouring states are burning crop residue in preparation for new planting. (ANI)
