New Delhi (India), March 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned for three weeks a plea filed by CBI DSP AK Bassi with regard to his transfer.
Following the appointment of M Nageshwar Rao as interim CBI driector, Bassi was transferred to Port Blair.
Bassi, in his petition, stated that he is being targeted for conducting a fair probe against Rakesh Asthana and others. He also stated that transfer may be the "first step to implicate him in false criminal cases/departmental proceedings" for investigating Asthana.
On October 24, Bassi was transferred to Port Blair. On January 9, Alok Verma, after taking charge as CBI Chief, withdrew Bassi’s transfer order. However, on January 11, when Verma was removed from the post of CBI Director, Nageshwar Rao was again appointed as interim director and Bassi was again transferred to Port Blair.
Bassi said that his transfer "is pursuant to a deep-rooted conspiracy, aimed at influencing the course of the investigation against Rakesh Asthana and further to penalise him for discharging his duties in a free and impartial manner in the Asthana FIR".
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi adjourned the matter after Department of Personnel and Training sought three weeks' time to file an affidavit. (ANI)
