New Delhi [India], April 17 (ANI): BJP Lok Sabha MP Manoj Tiwari on Wednesday expressed his deep admiration for Sanskrit, describing it as a language that has had a profound influence on his life.
He said this while addressing the launch event of the Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivir Abhiyan, organised by Sanskrit Bharati in collaboration with the Delhi branch of the Sanskrit Academy. The initiative will see 1,008 free Sanskrit-speaking camps held across Delhi from April 23 to May 3, 2025.
Calling on people to reconnect with India's ancient linguistic and cultural heritage, Tiwari appealed to Delhi residents to actively participate in the upcoming campaign.
"Sanskrit has a great impact on my life... There is a need to learn Sanskrit, and one should learn it...Today, I would also like to request that all the people of Delhi come to learn the language from April 23 to May 3," he said.
According to the organisers, the Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivir Abhiyan aims to revive Sanskrit as a living, spoken language. Over 10 days, the campaign will conduct spoken Sanskrit camps across Delhi, hosted at universities, colleges, residential communities, religious institutions, and gurukuls.
Each participant will receive 20 hours of training--two hours daily over ten days. The programme is open to all, regardless of age, background, or educational qualifications.
Beyond language learning, the initiative also seeks to impart traditional Indian values, ethics, and family principles deeply rooted in Sanskrit thought and culture.
Describing the campaign as a "cultural renaissance", Tiwari lauded its vision and scale.
"So far, we have seen campaigns like 'Learn English', but this is the first time we are witnessing a 'Learn Sanskrit' campaign on such a grand scale," he said.
"Sanskrit is a medium to connect with our culture--it is not difficult, but ancient and yet modern."
Prominent leaders present at the event included BJP MLA Kapil Mishra, All India Organisation Minister of Sanskrit Bharati Jaiprakash Gautam, and Delhi State President Vagish Bhatt--all of whom echoed Tiwari's sentiments.
Kapil Mishra called the initiative "a unique opportunity to connect with one's roots," while Jaiprakash Gautam remarked, "Sanskrit Saralam Api Cha Sarvesham--Sanskrit is simple and for everyone. It should become a common language for all Indians."
The campaign will conclude with a grand closing ceremony on May 4, 2025, at the Delhi University auditorium, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend as Chief Guest, along with several other dignitaries. The event has been titled a "Sanskrit Mahotsav", celebrating India's enduring cultural heritage. (ANI)
