Sanitation workers demand better pay, well-defined work timings

Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 8 (ANI): Sanitation workers from across the district gathered to voice their demands in the Thoothukudi district on Monday.
The demands include wage hikes, weekly leaves, and toilet and medical camp facilities among others.
The sanitation workers took to the streets to stage a protest in Thoothukudi for their nineteen demands.

Speaking to ANI, Thoothukudi Corporation Mayor NP Jegan Periyasamy said, "5 demands of the protesters will be implemented immediately after meeting with the union representative of sanitation workers. They have 19 demands including wage hike."
The workers were surrounded by the police during their demonstration near the Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation.
Earlier on Sunday, at the mayor's request, the mortal remains of the slain Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu president K Armstrong were placed at the Corporation School Ground in Chennai for public tribute.
The BSP leader was brutally murdered by a group of unidentified men near his residence in Perambur, Chennai.
A heavy police force was deployed outside the Corporation School Ground to ensure peace and public safety.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his grief over the incident, calling it "deeply saddening."
Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore announced on Saturday that eight suspects have been caught in connection with Armstrong's murder.
He assured that the situation in Chennai remains normal and emphasized their commitment to solving the case, promising to investigate all angles and bring all culprits to justice. (ANI)
