Pune (Maharashtra) [India], June 28 (ANI): RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that the core idea of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is "belongingness".
He was speaking at the launch of a biography of late Ayurveda Practitioner and RSS leader Dada Khadiwale in Pune.
"If the RSS were to be described in one word, it would be 'belongingness'," Bhagwat said, adding that this feeling must grow stronger in society."
"If the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were to be described in just one word, that word would be "belongingness". What does the Sangh do? It organises Hindus. And this growing sense of belongingness should be further strengthened because the entire world is sustained by it," he added.
Bhagwat said that real unity comes from recognising the common thread that connects everyone. Humans, unlike animals, have the ability to rise above selfishness, he explained. "The one who understands this belongingness is truly human," he said.
Talking about the role of the RSS, he said the Sangh constantly reminds society of this forgotten value. He said, "What does the Sangh do? It constantly reminds society of the belongingness it has forgotten through all of its programs, discipline, physical strength, and intelligence -- these qualities may vary in each individual swayamsevak (volunteer). But one thing is certain, these people live with us with a sense of belongingness, they carry that feeling with them and treat others the same way. This is the real work of the Sangh, to bind the entire Hindu society in the thread of belongingness. And the Hindu society has accepted this on its own that it is their duty to bind the whole world in this thread of belongingness", he added.
Bhagwat also recalled the words of former RSS Chief Madhav Sadashivrao Golwalkar, famously known as Guruji. "A swayamsevak's duty is to attend shakha regularly, learn, and selflessly serve everyone," he said.
Referring to modern phrases like "giving back," Bhagwat said this idea has always been present in Indian culture as part of the duty to serve others and live with a sense of togetherness.
He ended his speech by encouraging people to take initiative without delay. "If an Ayurvedic University should be built in Pune, then just start it," he said. "That's how we work in the Sangh too, if something needs to be done, we just do it."
The event was held to honour the life and work of Dada Khadiwale, a respected RSS leader whose biography was formally released at the gathering. (ANI)
