Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 9 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan on Saturday said that his party won the Ghosi Assembly byelection because people are angry with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for the high inflation and lack of job opportunities prevailing in the constituency.
He also claimed that the situation is the same all over the State under the BJP regime.
"We congratulate the people of Ghosi. The circumstance prevailing in Ghosi is prevailing everywhere in Uttar Pradesh. People are angry that there are not enough employment opportunities, inflation is high, and farmers are distressed," Hasan said while talking to reporters in Moradabad which he represents in Lok Sabha.
The Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh won the byelection in the Ghosi Assembly segment by a big margin of 42,759 votes. Sudhakar Singh defeated BJP's Dara Singh Chauhan who was the sitting SP MLA and whose switch over to BJP necessitated the byelection.
"The election was held on these issues. People opted for SP because they understood that the party could do development for them by taking everyone along irrespective of their religion and can able to maintain communal harmony," The Moradabad MP added.
It was the first byelection that happened in the politically important state UP after the Opposition formed the INDIA alliance. Other allies in the INDIA bloc supported the SP candidate.
Responding to a question related to SP's often repeated Electronic Voting Machine (EVM ) rigging allegation, he said that "rigging happened this election also. But the difference in the number of votes between SP and BJP is so high that they can't able to defeat us."
Reacting to the Bharat versus India controversy, he accused the BJP of playing "low level of politics."
"For us, the word Bharat is as valuable as India. Name India is known all over the world. It is the identity of our nation in the world. The name existed for years. Now you(BJP) have started hating the name India because the Opposition formed an alliance named INDIA. This is a very low level of politics by the BJP," Hasan said. (ANI)
