Samajwadi Party has only been doing "appeasement politics": BJP MP Shashank Mani

New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Shashank Mani on Wednesday mocked the Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav for conducting a meeting inside a mosque stating that the party had only been doing "appeasement politics" for many years, further claiming that their only aim was to keep their family members in power.
"Samajwadi Party has been doing appeasement politics for many years. They only have one aim -to keep members of their family in power. SP should work for all, not for one particular community," Mani said, speaking to ANI.
Further, following the notice by the Supreme Court to the Uttar Pradesh government seeking response on the pleas on the decision of QR codes on eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route, Mani mocked the Opposition had no real issues in the state and had been protesting for the "sake" of it.
"The (Uttar Pradesh) Chief Minister has said that the faith of every 'Kanwariya' must be respected. They should get cooperation from the government and society. It is a huge part of our culture and society....The Opposition has no real issues in Uttar Pradesh, and protest for the sake of protesting..." he said.
Earlier on July 15, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the UP and Uttarakhand governments seeking their responses to a plea challenging the mandate that requires shopkeepers along the Kanwar Yatra route to display QR codes, which could be scanned to reveal the names of the owners.
The UP government had issued an order earlier this year, mandating eateries to display QR codes containing information on the shop owners. Subsequently, the Uttarakhand government also followed with a similar order.
The mandate, now being challenged in the Supreme Court, is alleged to be violative of the fundamental rights of citizens.
The plea further states that the direction requiring vendors to display their names and identities will lead to discriminatory profiling. It also notes that a similar mandate issued by the UP government last year was stayed by the Supreme Court.
Thus, the plea seeks the respondent government to explain how the said mandate does not violate the constitutional rights of citizens and the interim stay order issued by the Supreme Court last year.
The plea also suggests that such a mandate should be limited to standard licensing requirements, and vague directives requiring the display of names should be eliminated. After hearing submissions, the Court posted the matter to be heard next week. (ANI)
