New Deli [India], August 2 (ANI): In the wake of a catastrophic flood that has ravaged parts of Himachal Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut on Friday termed it as "saddening" and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have taken reports.
"It's a very saddening thing for us. The life of people living in the mountains is tough. Every year such tragedies come and damage the lives and property of the people of Himachal Pradesh. The PM and the Union HM have taken reports for all the things and have given assurance that more help through relief funds will be provided. I'll also meet different ministers to seek as much help as I can get. After my work is completed here, I'll visit Himachal to meet people in their tough times," Kangana Ranaut said.
According to State Minister Rajesh Dharmani, 4 people have died and 49 are still missing.
"The CM has conducted a high-level meeting in the Secretariat. He tried to visit the affected area, but it was not possible due to bad weather conditions. Kullu, Shimla and Mandi districts have been badly affected by the disaster. As per the information received, a total of 49 people are missing, and 4 people have died. There has been extensive damage to the property... An alert has been issued in the whole region. Our search operation will be conducted till we find all the missing persons," Dharmani said.
The Himachal government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has mobilized extensive rescue and relief efforts. The disaster, triggered by a cloud burst, has left a trail of destruction in its wake, particularly affecting regions around Manali.
CM Sukhu, addressing the media amidst ongoing rescue operations, emphasized the gravity of the situation. "The rescue and relief operation is underway in full swing," he stated, highlighting the urgent need to locate and rescue those still trapped and missing.
Amidst the ongoing operation, CM Sukhu urged tourists to exercise caution.
"While tourists are welcome, I urge them to refrain from visiting risky areas such as rivers and waterfalls for photography and selfies," he cautioned, stressing the importance of safety during this critical period.
The resilience and coordinated efforts of the rescue teams has served as a beacon of hope amidst the devastation caused by this unprecedented calamity in Himachal Pradesh. (ANI)
