"Rubbing salt into the wounds of farmers": Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Haryana government's announcement on crop loss

New Delhi [India], September 12 (ANI): Haryana Assembly Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Friday slammed the state government over the recent compensation announcement over crop losses and termed it a matter of "rubbing salt into the wounds of the farmers."
In an 'X' post, Hooda noted that compensation of just Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000 is an injustice to the farmers if the cost is Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 per acre and the annual lease is Rs 70,000 per acre.
"The state government is rubbing salt into the wounds of the farmers. When the cost is ₹30,000-35,000 per acre and the annual lease is ₹70,000 per acre, then isn't compensation of just ₹7,000-15,000 a clear injustice to the farmers and a conspiracy to ruin farming in Haryana?," Bhupinder Singh Hooda wrote on 'X'.
Earlier, on September 8, Haryana Chief Minister announced the compensation for the flood-affected areas in the state.
According to Haryana CMO, "Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 3.26 crore as reserve fund for districts to provide immediate relief to people affected by the flood-like situation caused by heavy rains. This amount is being utilised for food, clothing, temporary shelters, tents, fodder for animals and other essential items, including petrol, diesel and fuels, along with transportation of relief material and drainage works in rural areas."
Further, it addressed various types of losses and damages. The Crop loss subsidies range from Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000 per acre, depending on the percentage of damage.
For the loss of life due to floods, a compensation of Rs 4,00,000 is provided. In cases of disability, victims with 40-60% disability receive Rs 74,000, while those with more than 60% disability are entitled to Rs 2,50,000.
For damaged houses, the relief amount is Rs 1,20,000 for homes in plain areas and Rs 1,30,000 for those in hilly areas. Partially damaged pucca houses qualify for Rs 10,000 (15% damage), and partially damaged kutcha houses receive Rs 5,000.
For shops, establishments, and industries in villages suffering 100% loss, compensation is provided based on the extent of the loss: up to Rs 1,00,000 for losses up to Rs 1 lakh, Rs 1,75,000 for losses between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, Rs 2,35,000 for losses between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2,75,000 for losses between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4 lakh, Rs 3,05,000 for losses between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, and for losses exceeding Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3,05,000 plus 10% of the additional loss.
For livestock losses, milching animals like buffalo, cow, or she-camel qualify for Rs 37,500, while sheep, goats, or pigs receive Rs 4,000.
Non-milching animals such as camels, horses, or bulls are compensated at Rs 32,000, and poultry losses are covered up to Rs 10,000. This structured relief ensures support for a wide range of flood-related damages. (ANI)
