Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], June 9 (ANI): Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong lauded the state police for their efforts and shared the details of the arrests made in the Indore Couple Case.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Dy CM Tynsong said, "... Meghalaya Police is pleased to announce a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the recent case of the disappearance of a honeymooning couple from Indore who went missing in the East Khasi district in May. Involving sustained efforts and multi-state coordination, four people have been apprehended in connection with this case- 2 from Indore, and 1 from Latifpur, UP... In a further development, Sonam Raghuvanshi has voluntarily surrendered in Ghazipur, UP, and is in the safe custody of UP Police. Necessary legal protocols are being followed for her transit and formal statement."
Tynsong appreciated the police and investigating agencies for the breakthrough despite the geographical and logistical challenges.
He said, "Round-the-clock efforts have been made by the Meghalaya Police SIT, supported by SDRF, NDRF, local intelligence units, and law enforcement agencies across states... Despite geographical and logistical challenges and repeated public and media scrutiny, our teams remained steadfast in our commitment to upholding the rule of law..."
"We take this moment to reaffirm that Meghalaya police is committed to delivering justice with integrity and perseverance. We are deeply grateful to the families and citizens of Meghalaya and our state counterparts for their support in this complex investigation," he added.
Talking to the media, after the press conference, Dy CM Prestone Tynsong said, "Four people were arrested. Sonam has surrendered herself in UP, so that makes it five people. We are in the process of bringing her to Shillong for further investigation... All these days, they have blamed the people and the government of Meghalaya. Since we have already arrested the accused, everything will become clearer to them and one day they will have to withdraw their statements against Meghalaya..."
He assured the public that the state is safe and asked them not to jump to conclusions without facts.
"Meghalaya is safe, and they need to learn not to jump to conclusions without getting all the facts and details. It creates confusion... Our police force has performed exceptionally well, and the police and our government, including the CM, would hardly sleep because we wanted to solve this mystery at the earliest," he said.
Sonam Raghuvansi, the wife of late Raja Raghuvanshi, was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road, said a senior police official of Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday.
Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, both residents of Madhya Pradesh's Indore, had gone missing during their honeymoon in the northeastern state of Meghalaya. Raja Raghuvanshi's body was later recovered in Meghalaya. (ANI)
