Patna (Bihar) [India], July 20 (ANI): Following the protest of the INDIA bloc against the law and order situation in Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday asked the RJD cadre to look into themselves, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar do not provide any "protection to criminals."
The INDIA bloc workers are protesting in Bihar alleging the failure of law and order in the state. This protest comes after the murder of Jitan Sahni, father of Mukesh Sahni, founder of the Vikasheel Insaan Party in Bihar.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said that the opposition is hiding their shortcomings.
"They (the opposition) are hiding their shortcomings, quick action is taken in Bihar. Earlier, the same people were carrying out such incidents, and today, when the crackdown on such people is increasing, they are shouting again. Law and order prevail in Bihar. The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister do not give any protection to criminals, there is a crackdown on terrorism, extremism, crime, and corruption," Sinha said.
Reacting to the INDIA bloc protest, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad asserted that the situation in Bihar has improved.
"They have the right to hold protests, but before that, the RJD should look into themselves. Earlier, there used to be kidnappings in the daylight in Patna, (under their regime)...The situation has got better...Nitish Kumar's government is looking into this (law & order situation in Bihar," BJP MP said.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Saturday said that the law and order in Bihar collapsed under Lalu Prasad Yadav's government, and added that the situation in the state is now normal.
"Law and order collapsed under Lalu Prasad Yadav's government in Bihar. He (Lalu Prasad Yadav) should first give an account of the injustice done to the people of Bihar for 15 years," Chaudhary told reporters.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said the Bihar government is taking strict action against the offenders.
"The law and order situation in Bihar is normal. Bihar government is taking strict action against the offenders. They (INDIA bloc leaders) want to hide their black deeds by holding a protest," he added.
On July 17, the leaders of the INDIA bloc parties met to discuss the current law and order situation given recent incidents and planned to hold demonstrations at all district headquarters on July 20 to protest the law and order situation in the state.
Earlier, VIP chief Mukesh Sahani's father, Jitan Sahani, was allegedly killed at his residence in Darbhanga.
The incident sparked a political uproar and the opposition criticized the Nitish Kumar government, alleging a breakdown in law and order. (ANI)
