New Delhi [India], Jul 7 (ANI): Father Solomon Gorge on Friday advised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gopal Shetty to refer to history to know about the role of Christians in India's freedom struggle.

New Delhi [India], Jul 7 (ANI): Father Solomon Gorge on Friday advised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gopal Shetty to refer to history to know about the role of Christians in India's freedom struggle.
"The BJP MP lacks knowledge of history. Christians are very much integral part of India. They have contributed substantially in India's freedom fight," he told ANI.
Shetty had stated that Christians did not contribute to India's freedom struggle, adding that only Hindus and Muslims played a role in India's freedom struggle.
"Christians were British; hence they didn't participate in India's freedom struggle. India was not freed by Hindus or Muslims, we fought as one for our independence," he was caught on camera saying.
Shetty made the controversial remark while addressing a gathering during the Eid-e-Milad organised by the Shia Kabrastan Committee at Malad's Malvani here on Sunday.
However, the BJP MP claimed that his remark was misrepresented. (ANI)
