Amritsar (Punjab) [India] Nov 19 (ANI) : Red carpets laid down in honour of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh at the site of Sunday blast, where he was scheduled to hold a press conference, were rolled back quickly after it came in media focus.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Parampal Singh, however, told ANI: "Media had asked for arrangements to be made. Now, media is saying why the arrangement? This is not right. Anyway, we have withdrawn them."
District Panchayat Raj Officer Sher Jung took a different line saying that there is no such concept of putting red carpets in the village. "This is a village we do not have concept of putting red carpets. When there is a death in the village white sheets are spread out but since vehicles were scheduled to come we rolled out a carpet. There is no such ritual of any specific carpet."
As of now the Chief Minister will brief the media at the Guru Nanak hospital where the injured are admitted and will speak on the developments in the case.
Earlier today, he announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Information regarding the suspects can be provided at police helpline (181) and the identity of the informers will be kept secret, said media adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister Raveen Thukral.
