Hisar (Haryana) [India], Oct 17 (ANI): Self-styled godman Rampal was on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment in a 2014 murder case.
Speaking to ANI after the verdict, Ashok Kumar Meena, District Magistrate, Hisar said that prohibitory orders have been imposed in the district and adequate measures have been taken to keep the situation under control.
Meena said, "Court today pronounced its verdict on 2014 FIR number 430 in which 14 people including Rampal have been sentenced to life imprisonment till death. Rampal and all the other convicts were produced before the court today. The case pertained to the murder of a woman in 2014. We have deployed large number of police force in the whole district and we are committed to maintaining complete law and order in the region. We have also imposed section 144 and the situation is totally under control."
Rampal's lawyer however said that they will be appealing in the higher court against the verdict.
Advocate AP Singh said, "He has been sentenced to life imprisonment till death. This is a fight for truth and it will go far and wide. Our facts and evidence were ignored. After we receive all orders we will challenge this decision in High Court and we hope we will get justice."
A day before this verdict, Rampal was also sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with two other murder cases.
The self-styled godman was arrested in November 2014 after two murder cases were registered against him.
The first case was filed after a woman's body was found in his ashram at Hisar's Barwal town on November 18, 2017. The second case was registered after the bodies of a child and four women were found in the same ashram on the following day. (ANI)
