New Delhi (India), Feb 12 (ANI): Following disruption by Samajwadi Party members in the Rajya Sabha and its subsequent adjournment, the Centre is likely to extend the current session of the Upper House of Parliament for a couple of more days, government sources told ANI.
Amid the ruckus created by SP members, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday without the Citizenship Amendment Bill being tabled.
With this,  the “Motion of Thanks” is likely to be passed in the Upper House on Wednesday without any discussion.
Sources told ANI that the government is planning to extend the Rajya Sabha for a day or two because important bills including the “non-contentious” ones over which opposition has also agreed, still need to be passed in this session.
The House was adjourned three times before Chairperson M Venkaiah Naidu called off proceedings for the day. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8, seeks to provide citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014.
