Rajasthan Health Minister cities 'medical complications' as reason for long waiting list for organ transplant

Ajmer (Rajasthan) [India], June 21 (ANI): Health Minister Raghu Sharma on Friday cited "medical complications" as a reason for long waiting lists for organ transplants across the state.
"There is difficulty in organ transport. Kidney transplant could not be performed unless there is a match between the patient's blood group with that of the donor otherwise it will not be successful. There is a problem of donors as well. You cannot force someone to donate his organ," Sharma told reporters here when asked about waiting period in organ transplant.
"There are many complications during transplants. Doctors cannot operate with closed eyes," he said.
There are concerns about organ donation in India since the rates of donation continue to be on the lower side. Lack of awareness about organ donation and pledging organs to donate is a big problem which is why names of people continue to be on the waiting list and they did not receive transplants on time.
