Rajasthan: Four arrested after video of man being beaten with sticks goes viral

Didwana Circle Officer Dharam Punia said that the victim identified as one, Sabir had gone to Kuroli village some days back to buy scrap where he was beaten up by some people. A video was recorded of the incident and on Saturday, it went viral on social media. The police then took cognizance of the matter and arrested four people in the case.

Didwana-Kuchaman (Rajasthan) [India], September 10 (ANI): Four men have been arrested as a video of a man being beaten up with sticks by a mob of eight to 10 people went viral on Saturday evening, police said. The incident took place around eight to 10 days back, they said.
Didwana Circle Officer Dharam Punia said that the victim identified as one Sabir had gone to Kuroli village some days back to buy scrap where he was beaten up by some people. A video was recorded of the incident and on Saturday, it went viral on social media. The police then took cognizance of the matter and arrested four people in the case.
The accused have been identified as Om Prakash, Shayar Singh, Chenaram and Khetaram, he said.
The Circle Officer said that apart from those arrested, former sarpanch Abhay Singh was also seen in the video. Efforts are on to arrest him as well, he said. The police have contacted the victim. Further action will be taken if the victim files a complaint, he added.
The victim, Sabir is a resident of Thanu village in Didwana tehsil in Rajasthan, the police said adding that he is a scrap dealer by profession and travels from village to village to buy scrap.
Recently, while on his visit to Kuroli, some villagers caught him on the charge of stealing scrap and took him hostage, the police said. Following this, he was taken to a room and beaten with sticks. The accused also extorted Rupees 21 thousand from him as a donation for the village cowshed.
The youth was then threatened and chased away from the village. After returning to his village, the victim kept tight-lipped about the assault on him, police said. (ANI)
