Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Mar 24 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi is not evading to contest Lok Sabha polls from Amethi, said Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Ashok Chavan here on Sunday.
"People of every province love him. He is not evading from Amethi. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi fights from different constituencies," Chavan told ANI while reacting the report that Rahul will 'positively consider' to contest from Kerala's Wayanad parliamentary constituency.
“Kerala party workers have urged Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad, one of the Lok Sabha seats in Kerala. We thank them for their immense love and affection.  Congress president will positively consider it," said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.
Chavan also dismissed all the claims that he was not willing to fight the ensuing polls. "It was not that I didn't want to fight the polls. I had left the decision to Rahul Ji and leadership. I am presently a sitting MP from Nanded and the party wants to fight from here, so I will render my responsibilities well."
The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), along with smaller parties on Saturday sealed their seat-sharing agreement for 48 Lok Sabha seats at stake in Maharashtra.
Announcing the break-up, Chavan said: "Congress will contest 24 seats, NCP 20 seats, Bahujan Vikas Aghadi one seat, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana two seats and Yuva Swabhimani Paksha one seat."
Maharashtra will go to polls in four phases--April 11, 18, 23 and 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. (ANI)
