Rahul mocks PM Modi for calling himself 'custodian of nation'

Bagalkote (Karnataka) [India], Feb 25 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remark during the 2014 elections, where he expressed his wish to be the 'custodian of the nation'.

"In his speech during the 2014 elections, the Prime Minister said that he wants to be the custodian of the country. On one hand, his one ex-Chief Minister and four ministers have been to jail, and on the other hand, the watchman (Prime Minister Modi) tells the country that he is here to fight against corruption," Gandhi said addressing a rally here.

In 2011, Former Karnataka chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader BS Yeddyurappa was jailed in two cases of corruption for illegally denotifying land in and near Bangalore.

Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Karnataka that began on Saturday, ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

On the first day, he addressed a rally at Athani in Belgaum district, besides other events.

Gandhi is due to address a rally in Dharwad district.

This is Gandhi's second visit to Karnataka ahead of the polls.

In the first leg of his tour, he visited the districts of Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga and Bidar. He also stopped at several prominent local temples and religious centres.

Karnataka is expected to go to polls in April or May. (ANI)
