New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday lashed out at the Opposition over its "condemnable" behaviour in Parliament over the bill to remove the prime minister, chief minister, and accused the Congress of seeking to keep its leaders above the law. "Does the opposition, especially the Congress party, want its leaders to remain above the law even after going to jail?" he asked.
The 130th Constitution Amendment Bill seeks to remove the Prime Minister or Chief Ministers who are facing allegations of corruption or serious offences and have been detained for 30 consecutive days.
He said the bill introduced will bring transparency and alleged that the Opposition aims to spread anarchy.
He further attacked Rahul Gandhi, calling him "anti-Constitution."
The remarks of the BJP came as the Lok Sabha witnessed a ruckus during its proceedings as opposition members tore copies of the bill and threw them towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to reporters, Pradhan said, "The way the opposition behaved in Parliament today is condemnable. Does the opposition, especially the Congress party, want its leaders to remain above the law even after going to jail?. In the past, we have seen that some leaders wanted to run the government from jail and did not resign."
"This bill will bring a lot of transparency. The aim of the leaders opposing this bill is to bring anarchy in the country. This shows how little they respect the Constitution," the BJP leader said
Pradhan also directly targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, describing him as "anti-Constitution."
Earlier today, the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025' were referred to the Joint Committee of Parliament after Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced them in the Lok Sabha.
The 130th Constitution Amendment Bill seeks to remove the Prime Minister or Chief Ministers who are facing allegations of corruption or serious offences and have been detained for 30 consecutive days.
Speaker Om Birla also objected to the behaviour of opposition members. The Speaker said members should not lower the dignity of the House.
"People are watching. Opposition members had earlier objected to the introduction of three bills," the speaker further added.
It is pertinent to mention that in 2024, Arvind Kejriwal did not resign, where he served for more than five months in jail as he was arrested in connection with the Enforcement Directorate's Delhi Excise Policy case. He resigned soon after, getting bail in the matter. (ANI)
