New Delhi [India], Dec 1 (ANI): Hitting back at Congress president Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's knowledge about Hinduism, Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that the former keeps on changing his Hindu appearances for political purpose.
Speaking to ANI, Prasad said, "Rahul Gandhi is confused and he keeps on changing his Hindu appearances for political purposes not by way of commitments. In Gujarat, he became Shiv Bhakt Gandhi. He goes to Rajasthan and there he becomes Brahmin Gandhi. Dattatreya Gotra we are hearing for the first time. He goes to Kailash Mansarovar there he gives a different commitment. He is not Hindu by commitment but by political consideration. Earlier he was secular, Therefore, his Hindu faith changes with political expediency. That is indeed an insult to Hindu faith"
Prasad further said that Gandhi has to learn a lot from Prime Minister Modi.
While addressing a poll rally in Udaipur today, Gandhi had said that Prime Minister Modi lacks knowledge on the foundation of Hinduism. "What is the essence of Hinduism? What does the Gita say? That knowledge is with everybody, knowledge is all around you. Every living being has knowledge. Our Prime Minister says he is a Hindu but he doesn't understand the foundation of Hinduism. What kind of a Hindu is he?" he asked.
Earlier today, Union Minister Sushma Swaraj also hit out at the Congress president for his remark and said, "Rahul Gandhi said that the Prime Minister does not know the meaning of being a Hindu. He said that because he and the Congress are confused about his religion and caste. For years, the Congress party presented him as a secular leader but near polls when they realised that Hindus are in majority, they created this image," said Swaraj while addressing the media in Jaipur on Saturday.
The 200-member Rajasthan Assembly is scheduled to go to polls on December 7 and counting of votes will take place on December 11. (ANI)
