Kodangal (Telangana) [India], Nov 28 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday mounted an assault on the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS), labeling the party "Telangana Rashtriya Sangh Parivar" and calling it "B-team" of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Addressing an election rally here, Rahul led a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of dividing the nation and spreading hatred among people. He further accused former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to have played a key role in the Prime Minister's plans.
"Whatever he did throughout the country, he couldn't have done without the Telangana chief minister. When we were fighting against Narendra Modi in Parliament, he was helped by the TRS. In every Bill, the TRS supported the BJP, RSS and the Sangh parivar," Rahul said. TRS is not Telangana Rashtriya Samithi and instead it should be called the "Telangana Rashtriya Sangh Parivar", he said.
"Their only aim is to ensure that the Congress party does not defeat the BJP at the national level. If TRS actually were a party that worked for Telangana, they wouldn't have helped a man like Narendra Modi," Rahul said.
He also attacked Chandrashekhar Rao over his unfulfilled promises to the people of the state, saying, "He (KCR) had promised to provide employment to at least one lakh youths. I want to ask the youth today, in the past four-and-half years, how many of them were given employment by KCR ji? Your chief minister employed four members of his family, those four snatched the future of four crore people."
"KCR made promises to everyone. He promised to give double bedroom houses. He promised to build 22 lakh houses, but the reality is, only 5000 were built. He also promised to give lands to our Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes brothers, even that promise was hollow," Rahul added.
The Congress president further stated that the People Front alliance's government in the state, comprising the Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), will provide houses and lands to the public.
While saying that women are the "backbone" of the state, Rahul said that the Congress party had introduced Self Help Groups (SHGs) for women, adding that KCR did not support the concept.
"As soon as our government is elected to power, we will give a grant of Rs 1 lakh to every SHG, and will provide Rs 500 crore for women entrepreneurs as bank loans," Rahul said.
The Congress president also said that the People's Front government will provide Rs 5 lakh for medical expenses for the poor and construct a 30-bed hospital in every mandal of the state.
Telangana will go to polls to elect the 119 members of legislative assembly on December 7, with the results scheduled to be declared on December 11. (ANI)
