RAF to get five new battalions

Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Oct. 7 (ANI): Five new battalions will be added to the Rapid Action Force (RAF) said Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday.

Singh said the new force will become fully functional from January 2018.

Rajnath while addressing the RAF officials here said, "Whenever there is need to control the situation, there is demand of Rapid Action Force. With the increasing demand of the force five new battalions will be added to Rapid Action Force and they will become fully functional from January 2018," Rajnath said.

"We decided we will provide a help of minimum Rs 1 Crore to families' of all our jawans who are martyred while serving nation," he added.

The RAF is a specialised wing of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), which deals with riot and crowd control situations.

The RAF was raised on December 11, 1991 and became fully operational on October 7, 1992. (ANI)
